The Music & Entertainment Gospel Awards (aka MEGA Awards), was launched in 2013 to recognize and celebrate outstanding performances and exemplary talents in Nigerian gospel music community, within the country and outside. The first edition was executive-produced by Footprints Pub. & Media Ltd., a multi-media outfit, and organised in collaboration with the Main Organizing Committee (MOC). It was fully endorsed by Gospel Musician’s Association of Nigeria, GOMAN.
The last two editions held at The Haven (the prestigious 2500-seater event centre in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos) on Fridays, Nov. 8, 2013 and Nov. 14, 2014 respectively. Both events were well-received and admirably supported with widespread media coverage.
Incidentally, Footprints’ CEO, Femi Akintunde-Johnson (aka FAJ) has been the creator of a number of major award ceremonies in the country, in the past 20 years. It is this wealth of experience that comes to the fore when he leads a team of outstanding professionals and top-level managers (in the MOC/CWC) to produce the MEGAwards.
This year’s edition holds at same venue on Friday, November 20, 2015 (from 5pm – MixZone). Its theme is “Pushing the Frontiers….” With close to 1000 songs submitted and threaded through the two-tier adjudicating process, awards shall be presented in 31 categories and three specials. However, only 20 awards shall be presented on the main show, while the rest shall go out during the post-awards event, same day and venue.
New Dawn, led by star actress, Lillian Amah, is now the Production company of the Awards (for pre- and post-production and coverage activities). Benin-based producer, Noah “Kbk” Momoh-led Proclaim Media and ArkMusik Media have been in charge of producing most of the radio “jingles” played regularly on partner stations (Raypower, Faaji, Brila, Beat, Naija, Classic and Top Radio FMs). Internet radios (Gospotainment, Proclaim and Amen Radios) have also been active.
There have been clutches of supporters whose logistical and technical input have made the event possible. Venue, Sound System, Stage Set. Performance Platform, Branding and Lighting Logistics running into millions of naira have been largely donated to keep the dream of making MEGA the most prestigious awards in Africa on course.
The 2015 MEGA is a three-part showpiece (Mix-Zone, Awards Show and Soiree: The After-Party) in which top rate performances and unpredictable nominations are certain to keep the day suspenseful and atmosphere electric. Some of the artistes confirmed to perform include Eben, Psalmos, Princess Ann Inyang, Ogecha (from Benue), Esselyte, Okiki Jesu, Elohan (from Benin), among others.
