“Intercession” Your Divine Responsibility

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none…

(Ezekiel 22:30-31).

Some individuals went to Jesus in Luke 13:1-5 to ask Him about the death of some Galileans whom Pilate had murdered while in worship, mixing their blood with the blood of the sacrifices on the altar. The Master referred in His reaction to another event–Siloam’s tower that fell and killed eighteen people. Jesus attributed their misfortune to sin and warned those He addressed that, unless they repented, they would all perish equally.

Now, sometimes such acts of judgment could be visited on a country or individuals, particularly if the Christians in that country do not fulfill their priestly ministry of intercession. It is our duty as Christians in the areas and countries we reside in to stop the evil works mastered by satan and quench the terror that he unleashes on countries. When we pray for our countries, there are increased activities of righteousness; the presence of God mantles men’s hearts and God’s Word prevails in their lives.

Today, many nations groan with the pangs of violence, war, and disasters like earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, etc. The Master’s analogy in Luke 13:1-5 demonstrates that these catastrophes do not occur in a country as the worst sinners are the individuals domiciled in it. We can bring back the dark forces in our lands by interceding for our countries. It’s our responsibility to do this.

We all need to realize that as Christians we’re the custodians of our environment; we’re called of God to preserve the earth and its inhabitants through prayers. In Matthew 5:13, Jesus said, “ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?

Jeremiah 29:7 says “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.”

You are responsible to God and the land you live in to seek his peace and pray for it to the Lord. So, no matter where you are or what you are doing, this is an appeal to you as an individual to intercede for your nation’s progress, peace, prosperity, and preservation.
