Deezer Brings Together Gospel Singers Fernandinho and Marcos Wit

Fernandinho, with American Christian music singer and Grammy winner, Marcos Witt.

Music is a universal language, and irrespective of nationalities or language, it is one of the most effective ways to communicate, reaching people in the most diverse forms. With this in mind, Deezer launches Deezer Passport in an unprecedented partnership to re-record two hits, “Dios ha sido fiel” and “Uma Nova História”, in an exclusive mix joining American Christian music singer Marcos Witt and Brazil’s gospel phenomenon, Fernandinho.

The project brings unreleased versions of the two songs that were selected by the artists to be recorded in the languages they both represent. Two versions were made, one entirely in Spanish and a second one in Portuguese, where both Fernandinho and Marcos Witt ventured to participate in the language of the other’s song. The result turned out to be a powerful combination of melodies associated with the professionalism of both singers, in gala performances that demonstrate that, when it comes to music, there are no frontiers.

The selection of these artists to debut the project was the right one: Fernandinho, who is one of the leading names in Brazil’s gospel music world, was also the most streamed artist of the genre in Deezer in 2020. Separately, Marcos Witt, an American performer who sings in Spanish, has become one of the most popular names in Christian music around the world. Known for hits such as “Renuévame” and “Tu Fidelidad”, he is a five-time Latin Grammy winner in the category of Best Christian Music Album (Spanish language).

In addition to the significant investments Deezer has placed on the Brazil gospel scene, the project also brings to light one of the few aspects of life that never really stopped during the pandemic, and one of the best ways we all have to experience cultures around the world – music. “Clearly, music is a universal language, regardless of which language a song is actually played in. It is extremely gratifying to know that in these times of social distancing, we can always feel close to each other thanks to messages of love and hope, and for this, we have the support of artists and talent like Fernandinho and Marcos Witt,” says Lincoln Baena, Gospel Editor in Deezer.

Pedro Kurtz, Content Director at Deezer, explains the project was born in Brazil as an original initiative to be exported to other countries, given its strong global potential. “We believe music really transcends borders and brings people together, and ‘Deezer Passport’ offers tremendous potential bringing together artists from around the world singing global hits, for different countries in different languages,” he concluded.
