Passion of the Christ Part 2 is to be called The Ressurection - Mel Gibson 1

Since 2004, we have been wondering what the sequel of passion of christ would look like or be named… Have you ever wondered how Mel Gibson would have followed up The Passion of the Christ? When the stone rolled away and the credits began to roll, did you feel unfulfilled?

Mel Gibson confirmed this week that he and Randall Wallace were working on a sequel to 2004’s top selling Christian film of all time, which grossed $612 million worldwide, to be called The Resurrection.

Gibson recently announced that he wanted to revisit the life of Christ, when he showed up as a guest of Pastor Greg Laurie at SoCal Harvest in Anaheim. “It’s not the Passion 2,” he said. “It’s called The Resurrection. Of course, that’s a very big subject and it needs to be looked at because we don’t want to just do a simple rendering of it — you know, read what happened.”

Gibson and Wallace had previously collaborated on Braveheart and We Were Soldiers before The Passion of the Christ; their upcoming production, Hacksaw Ridge, is coming out in November. Wallace co-wrote and directed the 2014 release Heaven is For Real. Both men have expressed their desire to make this happen.

Wallace told Hollywood Reporter that the resurrection was his specialty. “I always wanted to tell this story. The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more story to tell.”

“The evangelical community considers The Passion the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger,” Wallace said.

Gibson said Wallace was the man for the job. “In order to read [the resurrection], experience and explore probably deeper meanings of what it’s about, it’s going to take some doing, and Randall Wallace is up to the task.”

Now, fans can look forward to seeing how the sequel unfolds, as they’ll no longer have to wonder what Gibson believes came after the stone rolled away.
