The Chosen TV Show & Other Christian Movies to Watch This Easter 2026 — The Ultimate Guide

2026 is shaping up to be one of the strongest years for faith-based film and television in a very long time. From a landmark new season of the world’s most-watched Jesus series to a sequel a decade in the making, there is genuinely compelling content for every kind of Christian viewer this Easter season. Here is everything you need to know — what to watch, where to watch it, and why it matters.

1. The Chosen — Season 6 (Prime Video, Fall 2026)

The most anticipated Christian television event of the year.

The world’s most-watched series about Jesus Christ is returning for its sixth — and most emotionally devastating — season yet. Creator Dallas Jenkins has confirmed that Season 6 will stream exclusively on Prime Video in fall 2026, with the supersized season finale releasing as a global theatrical event in spring 2027.

The season will cover a single day: Good Friday. Jesus’ arrest. His trial. His crucifixion. The disciples scattering in confusion and grief. Every minute of it.

“Season 6 is the biggest season we’ve ever done, without a close second,” Jenkins told fans at ChosenCon in February. “The whole season is super-sized.”

He described the season’s central theme as surrender: “We’re watching Jesus ultimately surrender to something that was extraordinarily painful. The disciples confused, broken, wondering, having to surrender. I’m hoping viewers come away asking: can you surrender even when you don’t always understand?”

Noah James, who plays Andrew, said he spent two days on his couch weeping after reading the scripts. “It’s going to be brutal, but it will be surprising. It could be some people’s favourite season.”

Jonathan Roumie — who plays Jesus — confirmed the news personally at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington: “I’m grateful to say that season 6 will stream on Prime Video in the fall of 2026. Our hope is truly that this won’t be something people simply watch, but that it becomes an experience that draws them deeper into the mystery of Christ’s love.”

2. The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls (Prime Video, 2026)

The unexpected spin-off nobody saw coming.

In between seasons, The Chosen universe is expanding in an unusual direction. The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls — an unscripted special bringing survival legend Bear Grylls into The Chosen world — is coming to Prime Video this year. Dallas Jenkins confirmed it at ChosenCon, with no exact date yet announced. One for the watchlist.

3. I Can Only Imagine 2 (In Cinemas & Streaming Now)

The faith sequel that has already moved audiences to tears.

Released in cinemas on February 20, 2026, I Can Only Imagine 2 continues the story of MercyMe’s Bart Millard — picking up after the runaway success of the original song and following Bart’s struggles to maintain his faith, his family, and his integrity under the pressures of Christian music fame.

Starring John Michael Finley as Bart Millard, Dennis Quaid, and Milo Ventimiglia (This Is Us), the film explores forgiveness, the fragility of success, and the enduring power of worship. The synopsis: “After the breakout success of ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ Bart is living the dream — but behind the spotlight, his past threatens the family he’s built, especially the fragile bond with his son.”

Perfect Easter viewing for families and anyone who has found that faith is easier to sing about than to live.

4. A Great Awakening — Sight & Sound (Cinemas April 3, 2026)

In cinemas this week — the most timely Christian film of the Easter season.

Released in cinemas on April 3, 2026 — Good Friday — A Great Awakening from Sight & Sound tells the true story of an unlikely friendship between the Reverend George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin that helped ignite the First Great Awakening in colonial America.

“With the colonies on the brink of collapse, Whitefield ignites the first Great Awakening, uniting an entire generation with his thundering proclamation of liberty in Christ. In a miraculous turn of events, one of Whitefield’s closest friends becomes none other than Benjamin Franklin. Franklin discovers that true liberty cannot only be written into law — it must be awakened in the hearts of the people.”

For any Christian interested in the intersection of faith, history, and national revival — this is the Easter film of 2026.

5. House of David — Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video)

The Old Testament drama everybody is binge-watching.

Amazon Prime’s biblical drama House of David — described by viewers as “an Old Testament version of The Chosen” — returns for its second season. Following the extraordinary, turbulent, faithful, and deeply flawed life of King David from shepherd boy to fugitive to king, the series brings one of Scripture’s most compelling characters to life with stunning production values and honest storytelling.

Season 2 is available now exclusively on the Wonder Project add-on on Prime Video, with wider Prime availability coming later. Season 1 is fully available on Prime Video now.

6. Still Hope (Available Now)

The film that nobody expected to move them this deeply.

Released in limited cinemas from February 5–9, 2026, Still Hope tells the story of a teenage girl ripped from her family through sex trafficking — and her long, painful journey toward freedom, healing, and faith. Inspired by true stories, the film is raw, difficult, and ultimately redemptive. A powerful testimony to the God who never stops looking for the lost.

Not easy viewing — but some of the most important Christian storytelling of 2026.

Coming in 2027: The Resurrection of the Christ (Mel Gibson)

Start praying. This one is coming.

Mel Gibson’s long-awaited sequel to The Passion of the Christ (2004) is targeting a 2027 theatrical release — split into two parts. The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One is set to open on Good Friday, March 26, 2027, with Part Two releasing on Ascension Day, May 6, 2027 — through Lionsgate.

In the new films, Jesus will be portrayed by Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen (Jim Caviezel will not be reprising the role), while the role of Mary Magdalene goes to Cuban actress Mariela Garriga. The original Passion of the Christ, self-financed by Gibson for $30 million, earned approximately $610 million worldwide and remains one of the most impactful Christian films ever made.

Easter 2027 is going to be something special.
