Reach Records Artist Lecrae teams up with label mate 116 to presents this new music video for “California Dreamin” – featuring John Givez and produced by Zaytoven. An anthem for the west side, “California Dreamin'” is one of 14 tracks included on Reach Records’ Summer Nineteen, playlist featuring a collective of 37 artist and producers, many who have worked with or signed to Reach Records. The video directed by The Ajayis brings to life pages from Lecrae’s book, Unashamed, with visuals that depict memories of Cali summers in the 90’s.
If you’re wondering about Lecrae’s connection to Cali, he spent many summers living with his grandmother in Southeast San Diego’s Skyline Hills, one of the most notorious parts of the city. Lecrae’s verse in the track, “The hood called me OG cause I blew up. It’s all God if you knew the way I grew up,” is a recollection of how he grew up, lured by the streets of San Diego, with its ‘palm trees, sea breeze, BCs, BGs and OG’s sipping on OE,” and the early exposure he had to God through Big Momma. “Southeast San Diego was, for me, a place where two worlds collided. On one side was my grandmother, Big Momma, a devout Christian who was the first to introduce me to faith and religion. I respected her, but idolized the OGs who ran the streets. Take a look at “California Dreamin'” video below and be transported to Cali in the 90’s.
