South African gospel musician Lundi Tyamara who was reportedly admitted to hospital in the month of December 2016 is confirmed dead. After news of his illness, family and friends of the gospel singer gathered often to pray for his recovery. He was taken to Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday for stomach TB and a liver condition where his health was reported to have turned worse.
Tyamara family released a statement this morning confirming the talented musician’s death, saying he died this morning at Edenvale Hospital.
Tyamara is known for his hit single “Mphefumlo Wam” which turned him into a household name. Tyamara’s former manager, Tshepo Nzimande, recalled the success of song which was released in October 1998 and by December had sold “18,000 copies”.
“We said, ‘Guys, there’s legs on this album, this is going to be big.’ The following year he was nominated as the best newcomer, and we sold over 380,000 on his debut album.”
