Many stories had been told about how Jesus fed the multitude from almost nothing, different preachers and teachers telling the stories from different dimensions, but as I read through that story in the book of John chapter 6 few days ago, my eyes were opened to certain truth which I want to share with you today.
I’m sure this will help you notwithstanding your field of endeavor, so read carefully.
Verse 2 of that chapter said that “A large crowd followed him (Jesus), because they had seen his miracles of healing those who were ill”.
What stood out for me in that story is not whether they followed Jesus or not, but my concern is the WHY of their following him. Interestingly they followed him, not because he was good looking or eloquent, though he was not lacking in any of those attributes, rather they followed him because of what they had seen him do. (The results He produced)
The bible testified about Jesus that he went about doing good, healing all that were sick and setting at liberty the oppressed.
The WHY of their following him is a good news to anyone who truly desires to live an impactful life. Your appearance does not matter much, your disabilities is not a problem at all, your social status does not count either, your background is not even an issue as long as you have what the people want, and what does the people want? They want VALUE, RESULT, ANSWER, and SOLUTION.
Jesus while on earth was not a noise maker like most of us today, his was a talk and do man.
They saw Jesus bring solutions to people’s problems, they saw him give meaning to the life of those who had been written off by ugly situations, they saw him provide answers to people’s unending questions, they saw him add value to the entire human race, that was why they could risk anything to follow him all the way.
No one ever came in contact with Jesus and remained the same, something about you must change after an encounter with his person and the same is true till date.
To you reading this, WHEN PEOPLE COME IN CONTACT WITH YOU, DO THEY BECOME BETTER OR WORSE?
HOW IMPACTFUL ARE YOU IN YOUR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE?
CAN THE PEOPLE IN YOUR JURISDICTION POINT TO YOU AND SAY, YES, THIS MAN/WOMAN/YOUTH HAVE TRULY ADDED VALUE TO US OR ARE YOU THE TYPE WHO DERIVES PLEASURE IN TEARING PEOPLE DOWN WITH INHUMAN ATTITUDES?
Jesus knew who He was and He utilized every opportunity that came His way to reveal Himself as the messiah.
The world is changing and only those who have solutions; those who produce result are sought after. Jesus had something in him with which he affected the world for good, WHAT DO YOU HAVE? WHAT GIFT/TALENT HAS GOD DEPOSITED IN YOU? You are meant to use it to impact humanity.
Matthew’s account of that event in Mathew 14:14 noted that …… “When Jesus saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and He healed those who were ill”
He felt their pain, he could have neglected or looked down on them, after all, he didn’t ask them to come with Him, but despite that he felt their pain.
This tells me that it is only those who are pained about a problem that feels the need for a solution.
Washing machine was invented because someone somewhere felt the pain of scrubbing clothes, various means of transportations came about because some people felt the burden of long distance trekking.
Though we cannot all be inventors, but you can improve on that which has been invented. You can as well utilized on things that are already in existence to add value to humanity.
What part of human need are you burdened about, if Jesus felt the pain of the people around him, who are you to be less concerned about all the ugly happenings around you.
There are innumerable problems in Nigeria today, which of them can you be a solution to, remember, it is only those with value/solutions that are celebrated, not those who sit down to blame others for the problem.
When it was time to feed the people, they had nothing with which to feed them, when Jesus asked his disciples where they could get food for the multitude, his disciples said they had nothing with which to buy the food, but Andrew said there was a little boy in that crowd who had only five loaves of bread and two fishes, then he added that even if they have to feed the people with that, certainly it won’t be enough.
We already know how Jesus fed them with the five loaves and two fishes and they still had leftovers.
Both the little boy and his small loaves and fishes teach us that little things are not really as little as they appear.
Who would have thought that what Jesus needed to feed such crowd resided with a little boy?
You are not as insignificant as you think. You are special no matter your size or background. Just like the boy’s bread and fishes, LITTLE THINGS CAN BECOME MUCH WHEN IT IS PROPERLY UTILISED.
That which God has given to you, be it resources or talent is to be used to impact your world. Stop looking down on it for it is not the quantity of what you have, that matters but what you do with it.
Just like Apostle Paul admonished Timothy, I also admonish you today never to neglect the gift of God upon your life. USE IT.
IN CONCLUSION
Having such number of people to feed in the midst of nothingness was a big challenge, but rather than complain, Jesus capitalized on it to prove himself as the Messiah.
He could have just got angry and ask them to go or even shout at them for following him, instead he took advantage of the situation to build more trust for himself.
Your challenges like I’ve always said are not meant to hurt you, but to equip you for your life assignment. Never focus on the things that seem not to be working in your life when you can figure out ways to make them work.
Look around you, what are the problems in your community? What is it that each time you see it you get pissed off? Now ask yourself, how can I be of help using what I have? You have what it takes to make it.
