As we commiserate with Soulsnatch on the loss of his wife, we are reminded of the group, Rooftop MCs and the song that propelled them to national Limelight titled Lagimo featuring Cohbams Asuquo.
Between 2007 and 2009, this song “lagimo” ruled in airwaves from radio to television, totally redefining what gospel music has been known to be prior to RoofTop MCs. They were a breath of fresh air, a much-needed deviation from the status quo. Gospel music never sounded this good was wake up call to gospel artist, to dare more and be more creative.
The message of the song was universal for the Christian community. When translated as a whole from Yoruba to English it means, “if my head will swell up in pride, beat it back into humility”.
It was a passionate plea to God to keep them (RofTop MCs) humble at a time when fame and money were coming to them. This message of humility was well received and resonated widely across the nation among a diverse class of people, from Rap and HipHop lovers to Christians and general lovers of good music.
Where is Rooftop Mcs now
Since after this song and a few other songs, the duo has literally exited the scene, making skeletal appearances here and there as individual artists but not as a group again. Grapevine has it that they have since parted ways but Gospotainment is yet to confirm that.
Sokleva is reportedly based in Nigeria while Soulsnatcha is resident in the United Kingdom.
