GRAMMY-nominated gospel legend Daryl Coley has passed at the age of 60. Coley was born in Berkeley, Calif., and founded the Love Fellowship Tabernacle in Los Angeles.
Many gospel artists credit Coley as an influence, known for his unmistakable tone and delivery in music, as well as impeccable vocal agility.
Having suffered with complications from diabetes for several years, Coley was often subject of false internet stories of his passing. Yesterday, news spread that Coley was in hospice care, where he passed last night.
Daryl Coley’s songs include several classic hits like “Sovereign,” “Beyond the Veil,” “He’s Preparing Me,’ and “When Sunday Comes,” which was recorded with Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers. Coley was even the voice of animated Simpsons character Bleeding Gums Murphy, performing a gospelized “Star Spangled Banner” on one episode.
Funeral arrangements for Daryl Coley have not yet been announced.
