There has probably never been this height of anticipation about a seemly gospel album in the entire world of gospel music like there is with Kanye West’s “Jesus is King”. The anticipation and frenzy for this album can be officially defined as crazy and the reasons might not be far fetched.
The fact that Kanye West is releasing a Christian themed album is huge, the fact that it is ‘the’ KANYE WEST that is releasing this album is monumental, the reality that the album is titled JESUS IS KING is astronomically monumental, hence the frenzied hype around it. Pundits may say, they saw it coming, with the entire Sunday service tour which according to Kim Kardashian West, allegedly started as a means of soul healing for Kanye. I mean Snoop did it. He released a gospel album and it was a huge success and clinched several gospel category awards ahead of traditional gospel artist. The Sunday service gathering has now become some sort of movement, transversing several US cities including California, Wyoming, Chicago, New York etc.
Fans got a feel of the album at the listening party which held at The Fox Theater in Detroit. The event titled Jesus is King: The Kanye West Experience sold out in a few hours.
Earlier last month, Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian announced on her Instagram page a likely album tracklist. Some of the tracks in the list are Up from the ashes, Follow God, Use This Gospel, La Monster and many more.
“Jesus is King” a film directed and filmed by Nick Knight, Britt Lloyd & Nico Ballesteros showcasing Kanye’s Sunday Service at James Turrell’s Roden Crater will be released exclusively in IMAX cinemas worldwide on October 25th, 2019.
Kanye’s Sunday Service train was at The Greater Allen AME Church in Queens, New York this last week. There have been mixed reports about how the regular church members received Kanye at Greater Allen. One online news blog reported that some members walked out of the church, while others reported that he was received with open arms. Only time will tell where all of this is leading to.
