Last Sunday the 17 of November was a memorable one for Joel Osteen and the people of Lakewood Church as they hosted Ace Hip maestro Kanye West and His Sunday Service Choir and Comunity.
Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church was filled to the brim as people who would normally not come to the church were present, some for the first time just to see Kanye West.
Recall that Kanye started Sunday Service in Calabasas California some months back and that small meeting has gone on to become a movement, touring all over the US. During the tour, he also released an album titled Jesus is King which has become the album born out of the Sunday Service performances.
Before the Performace with the Sunday Service Collective, Pastor Joel Osteen had more like an interview time with Kanye West on stage, asking him questions about his life and beliefs and what is inspiring his new confessions of faith. In our opinion, West made some very valid Christian points and this might leave his sceptics short of words. Watch the video below
Apart from performing some of his classics like “Jesus Walks” and songs from his ninth studio album, “Jesus Is King,” West also performed gospel remixes to classic R&B ballads such as SWV’s “Weak” and Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name,” which was changed to “Call His Name”. West also gave a shoutout to Rodney Reed, a Texas inmate facing death row whose execution was blocked Friday.”One time for Rodney Reed and his family,” West said during a rendition of his song “Father God.”
Kanye released “Jesus Is King” album on October 25. The Grammy Award-winning artist has promoted the album through a series of performances across the country, including one at the Harris County Jail on Friday. West’s “Sunday Service” performances have included exuberant versions of hits like “Jesus Walks” and a handful of gospel songs, as was the case in Chicago in September. An Instagram account titled kanyesundayservices features videos and photos from many of these events.
Kanye has also featured on several TV shows including the James Corden’s Carpool, in which Kanye’s version was an Airpool.
