The upcoming Nigerian gospel music talent show, Lagos State Choir Awards 2020, is set to kick off in earnest. A press conference was held by the organizers on Saturday October 3rd, 2020.
The press conference featured some of the members of the organizing body, Boundless Multi Services Solutions, as well as some representatives of some prospective choirs and some of the judges.
The Chairman of the Lagos State Choir Awards, Mr. Oti Jonathan Idowu, after expressing his gratitude to the show’s partners and judges, addressed some of the goals the LSCA seeks to achieve.
He said:
The foundation of music is in the church. But over time, we have seen a cross over from the church to the ‘world’ because it is more ‘profitable’.
We want to bring music back to the church and be part of a movement to bring gospel music to the front burner and reposition it the way it should be.
The Lagos State Choir Awards is aimed at refocusing true Christian music by raising a new generation of worshipers.
Nigerian gospel artists FLO Rocka and Nikki Laoye, also spoke on issues that have made gospel music a seemingly unprofitable venture.
They both agreed that gospel music is only for true worshipers who are ready to carry the gospel to the end of the world, with Jesus at the center.
The LSCA is the first of its kind and seeks to spread to other states within the country until it becomes a National affair. According to their website :
Lagos State Choir Awards is designed to crown the best choirs in Lagos state.
The awards categories include “Best Gospel Band Performance” Best Contemporary Gospel Choir Performance”, “Best Classical Gospel Choir Performance ” Best Indigenous Gospel Choir Performance” Best Acapella Gospel Choir Performance”
The show is aimed to support, train and bring choirs together in a beautiful setting and where people can learn, develop and thrive.
This would inspire people to experience the power of interaction by singing together, unrelated to artistic levels. This approach challenges personality and team spirit likewise.
It contributes to people overcoming conflicts settings, through their social interaction. Music is the common language of the world and serves as a link between cultures.
Some of the judges include Mr. Wols, Esther Osagie, Onos Ariyo, Nikki Laoye, FLO Rocka, Simon Keys, and Femi Olulowo, among others.
