I grew in the city of Aba, and I am a keyboardist. I played for many Igbo gospel artistes, though I never got to play for Israel Anyanele. Israel Anyanele is the leader of the very famous Agape love band and is one of the most influential igbo gospel music minister. The Volume one of his album titled “N’ulo Nnam N’igwe” contains this song titled Aka Jehovah.
You can imagine my amazement when I heard Gabriel Eziashi sing Aka Jehovah at the African Praise Experience at House on the Rock, Lagos. It brought back memories of the times I played the exact keyboard solos in that song at various functions and events. What I didn’t even know is that he has recorded a new version of the song and even has a Lovely video of the song. All of a sudden, a song I used to play at Crusades, churches and other events back in Aba, resurfaced and is making so much waves that it has garnered over 1 million views on YouTube. Gabriel Eziashi has true resurrected this song. The original version of this song was record in the early 90s. Waooh, I bet Israel Anyanele did not garner this level of storm with this song in his days. Though it is a very popular worship song among the igbo people, it is nice to see it back to life, such that people from all nations and tribe now sing it. I wonder if Israel is even aware that his old song has come back to life.
Here is the lyrics
Aka Aka Ya (The arm of the Lord)
Aka Jehovah na’eme mma (The arm of the Lord does great things)
Olu ebube ya (The display of His splendor)
Nke na eruari na’ebem no (I see all around me)
Isi iyi nke ndu (The stream of life)
Nke na dighi ata’ta (That never runs dry)
Aka aka ya (The arm of the Lord)
Aka Jehovah na’eme mma (The arm of His strength does great things)
