So I thought of writing a review of this song – Someone’s at the door in the light of Nathaniel Bassey’s recently released album titled This God is too Good though I am not sure if I would do justice to it because this song is larger than life; an archetype of world music with elements of jazz. This song can be likened to a vintage wine, specifically a Bordeaux. It’s exquisite, soul soothing, reassuring, uplifting and inspiring.
Watching the video gives you goose pimples, mesmerizes you with shudders, you are lost in the message and the feeling it oozes. The ambiance of the video is calm, collected, deep and thoughtful. The musicianship is excellent; a world class production. The violin, piano, guitar, double bass, organ and drums feels gave it a classic old school feel.
Nathaniel, though looking a little dry or unkempt in the video (I don’t know if my eyes is deceiving me) but he made watching the video worth it; with the mix of calm and gusto that comes with loving Jesus and yet being a professional musician. The church set is lovely with stained glasses and ancient architectural designs. I personal love the swag with which he commanded the band in ”Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is at the door” it made me laugh and yet got me pondering about him (Nathaniel) and all he has been through and how strong his conviction must have been at that time. I LOVE this video. The video was released in 2008 and has since garnered over a million views.
