And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you (2 Corinthians 6:15-17).
Our theme scripture reveals one of the many amazing blessings of the Christian! Notice that it doesn’t say, “We shall be the temple of the living God when we get to heaven,” but that “we are the temple of the living God.” It doesn’t get better than that. This is a present-hour truth.
The word translated “temple” isn’t the ordinary everyday temple, but the specific word that refers to an inner shrine; it’s the Greek word “naos.” “Naos” refers to the shrine that houses the image of the “god”; it’s the inner sanctuary where the image of the god is kept. That’s what Paul is saying here.
For the Jews, it was the Holy of Holies; that’s where the presence of God was. They didn’t have an image in there, but the presence of Jehovah was inside there. The place that the presence of God resides is the very place that Paul is referring to here. When the Holy Spirit took up His abode in the quarters of your heart, you ceased to be an ordinary man; you became God’s living tabernacle.
In reality, everywhere you go, God goes, because you’re His house. He talks in you, and He looks through your eyes, but not many Christians are cognizant of this reality; hence, they live as mere men. The temple of God, which you are, is where God resides in all His power and majesty.Likewise, when you show up, the devil bows, because he can’t stand God’s glory, and that glory is in your spirit.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for the indwelling presence of your Spirit in me; I’m not an ordinary person. I’m your living tabernacle. Therefore, no sickness, disease or infirmity can successfully lodge in my body, because the life in me is divine, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
