There are many reasons as to why there is life on Earth and out of the many factors which make our planet different from all others is the existence of water. There’s a certain saying, “Nature is the best teacher”. To a certain extent we would like to affirm this saying because we believe God uses the natural environment to speak to us and teach us certain important lessons of life.
One of the most important and wonderful natural resource that God has provided man is ‘WATER’. Life without water is inevitable but one of the most important and basic function of water is to sustain human life by fulfilling the basic need of ‘Thirst’. Now each person has an inner thirst too. Some thirst for love, some for acceptance and some for happiness and others for security and if nothing else, the thirst for peace.
Jesus while on earth addresses Himself as the ‘living water’ to a woman who came to draw water from a well. He exemplifies to her that if she invites Him into her heart then she will never thirst again for what she had been thirsting desperately for till that moment! Jesus knew her need even before she could tell Him anything about her life. He could sense the brokenness and exhaustion within her that had created a deep void in her heart. He deliberately approached her asking her for some water as He knew that she had a greater need that could only be met if she knew what God has to offer her.
Dear reader, God knows what you thirst for right now. Much deeper is this thirst that entire humanity has to attain salvation. This season let us open our hearts to Jesus so that He could meet our thirst in a way that would rejuvenate our life where we need him most. As He said, “Whoever drinks of the water I give him will never thirst again!”.
