Mena is an amazing Nigerian gospel music minister, in this interview with Ugoma Johnson, he talks about his journey so far in the music industry.
Can we meet you, sir,? Tell us a bit about yourself, and education.
My name is Efemena Kenneth Isike, a Gospel music minister, a graduate of Economics from the prestigious Madonna University, Okija, Anambra state, Nigeria.
You just released a new song titled, ‘Everything To Me’, is that your first song or do you have an album or other singles?
Great, in 2016 I released a Single titled “Mighty King” the song talks about the Greatness of God, so “Everything To Me” is my second single.
For how long have you been doing music and what motivated into doing gospel music?
I started music from a very tender age, right from the children choir. We would go for singing competition in different churches, and I discovered there is always a desire to sing, not just any other type of songs but Gospel songs, so I had to build and develop myself in singing Gospel songs, then I usually listen to Andrea Crouch, Shiley ceaser, Bob fits and so many others then.
Do you think it is tougher to breakthrough as a gospel music artist, compared to doing secular music, and what are the challenges you encounter as a gospel music minister?
It’s a bit easy for a Gospel music minister to breakthrough because we have Jesus on our side, we have a lot of churches too.
If you’re given an opportunity to advise the ‘bigger artist’ in the Nigerian gospel scene what would your advice to them be?
My advice to them would be to carry the upcoming artist along, father them, train them musically, mentor them and project them when necessary.
What’s your advice to the upcoming artist?
Persistence and Consistency is key, loyalty, prayers and having a Godly character will keep you in the race for long.
