In Deuteronomy 31:19, God said to Moses: ” Now therefore, write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel; put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the children of Israel”.
These kinds of songs are prophetic. They move God and shift things in the lives of men whenever they are sung, especially with understanding. They are not the construct of creative thinking, great songwriting skills or musicianship. They are not even the creation of unguided zeal and determination to work for God. They are the product of men who are able to capture or translate the thoughts and the mind of God accurately in song.
The songs of the Lord are legal entities. They are the kind of songs recognized by God in Heaven whenever they are sung by men on earth. Not all the gospel songs we love to hear or sing will make it to this category. The songs of the Lord are legal entities because they are written according to the law, the commands and the word of God, inspired by the Spirit of God.
These kinds of songs are given by the Lord, but received only by men of His presence. Such songs have a purpose to fulfill. They may have local or national implications, may or may not have favorable economic consequences for the writer or singer, but they are never released for selfish or commercial purposes. Some of these songs are spontaneous and may last but for a moment, others for a lifetime. Some will serve God’s purpose within a local assembly.
