Dangote’s encounter with Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa

arch bishop idahosa

Benson Idahosa (Arch Bishop) is Africa’s patriarch of modern day Pentecostalism. The story is told about the encounter between Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa and Aliko Dangote

Aliko Dangote was born into a wealthy home in Kano. He got his first degree in Cairo, Egypt. He had always loved trading , and reports say he hawked sweets even as a primary school child , even though his family was wealthy. Dangote is really a very humble person even by the confessions of people who have interacted with him.

But Dangote is not the only hardworking Nigerian. He is not the only humble person around . He is probably not the most business savvy in Africa. But he is certainly the richest Blackman in the world . His companies employ over 11 , 000 people directly – not to mention , distributors, contractors and other vendors who depend on his businesses to thrive . Dangote is a blessing to humanity.

There is no family in Nigeria today that does not have a Dangote product in their home. If it is not sugar, then it is salt or the house you are living in was built with a Dangote Cement . Everyone has something to do with his business , so like Job he earns a little off everyone and that is the way to get wealthy.

Dangote is the 23rd richest person in the world and is said to be the second most powerful African alive . The question is how did Dangote attain such a height ? Yes, you can’ t take away his hard work and business acumen, but that is only the starting point. The answer will not be found in the Forbes Magazine or on Wikipedia. The answer is in the verse of scripture quoted above : If you are willing and obedient you will eat the good of the land .

The Encounter with Idahosa

Sometime in the early 90s Dangote had an encounter that set his foot on the path of destiny. Archbishop Benson Idahosa had some guests TL Osborn, an American pentecostal Evangelist, and his wife, Daisy in Benin who needed to travel back urgently from Benin to Lagos to catch up their flight to the US . Unfortunately by the time the Archbishop took his guests to the airport they were told that the last flight for the day was overbooked and not a single seat was available. As a matter of fact , the passengers have boarded and were about to take off. Idahosa asked for the plane to be delayed a few minutes and walked to the tarmac where he was allowed to address the passengers. He pleaded with them about the desperate situation of his guests and asked that two persons should donate their seats for his guests to get to Lagos .

Everyone in that plane was a Christian . Not one of them batted an eyelid. Some pretended to be asleep, some pretended to be praying and the man of God stood waiting . From the back of the plane , a young man asked the person sitting next to him to get up and together they vacated their seat for the American visitors. Idahosa stopped him in the aisle of the plane and asked , “ Youngman , what is your name and what do you do ?” “ My name is Dangote , Aliko Dangote and this is my assistant . I am a trader, a businessman .”

It was there and then, that Papa Idahosa prophesied to him that “ the World will get up for you”. He prayed that God should take his business beyond Africa and bless him beyond measure . Today we see that prophesy manifesting . God destined that blessing for someone seated in that plane that evening. But there was a condition attached to it – Isa 1 :19 If you will only let me help you, if you will only obey , then I will make you rich! Dangote ’ s wealth today was not meant for a Christian businessman who was too proud, too fixated in his mind to offer the “ flamboyant man of God” , the “ prosperity preacher” his seat .

My question is, if you were there on that plane , would you have taken the blessing? Read another version of this story on Rev Sunday Adelaja blogs

    • This story that was shared here is true. I was born and grew up in Benin.
I heard the Arch Bishop share the experience himself then when he was alife but did nt know then that it was Dangote that stood up along wt his personal assistant. Today,God’s word has been proved. It pays to be humble and respectful
      in life

  1. This story of Dangote vs Idahosa story isn’t true and serves no righteous purpose. So who did Bill Gates and the other 21 world richest people stand up for? If the Bible can not convince people of the need for humility and obedience to God, then this type of obviously made up story will not. To celebrate riches and wealth no matter the source goes contrary to Biblical standards. Gain, wealth and success are not the same thing as godliness. What is the end of Dangote, Bill Gates, Ophra Winfred etc without Jesus?? We failed to recognise that the world eternal richest man is mentioned in the Bible. No man will ever be as rich as Solomon according to the Bible l, yet we do not use him as our role model.

      • True. The bible lets us know that when the rain falls in the forest, it falls on every tree in the forest. There are spiritual principles, and God honours the words of His prophets.

    • At least you should try to verify source of the story and not to conclude it is not true. The story shared here properly advance the cause of the gospel. If you have a fact to show this is not true just provide it. Jesus said he that gives a cup of water to a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet reward. A prophet reward includes his proclamation as a result of what someone did for or for the Lord. When Jesus he there is exclusion and one does not need to be a christian to be reach. All that is needed is for you to follow reveal principles and means and you will be rich.

As for the other names you mentioned do not assume you know their story because you may just not have heard how their path crossed with destiny. I also do not see celebration of riches here but celebration of the fulfillment of the word of God. God is God and his word is eternal. He made an ass to speak and honoring the word of his servant as he said he will do is not a big deal for him to do.

@Abel you must know that life is spiritual. Don’t believe all you see is all there is.

      Thank you.

  2. I heard this story in church this past Sunday but a different version as the second person was a girl and also volunteered. If the story is true, which version should we believe? The spreading of various versions of this story points only to one thing: how materialistic we have become. I bet u if the bishop prayed and people gave their lives to Christ nobody will talk about it, yet we all know what the Bible said about gaining the whole world and suffering the loss of ones soul.

    • Even the Gospels I.e Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have same events with slight differences but that doesn’t mean the events aren’t true. The fact that different people recorded it with slight differences doesn’t mean it is not true. Look beyond the event as see the teaching behind it. Thanks

  3. Abel u sincerely lack knowledge! This story is so authentic!Success is diverse.I so don’t understand your argument of ‘who did bill gates stand up for’.You are just one of those people that must argue unreasonably about anything

  4. Beloved brethren, it is indeed pointless and needless debating over the validity or invalidity of this wonderful piece. God help and teach us all.

  5. Am so blessed today and i’m at the same time marvelled at some other peoples perception of the story whether true or false beloveth it worths it………so pls let’s remember one of the thing christianity entails is humility

  6. A wise man will always learn a good lesson in the face of any situation.
I think there is a great lesson here. Jesus told us a similar story about ‘Good Samarithan’ . Many will be suprised on that day by the decision of the Master when he will say to some of us depart from me i know you not. Learn now, repent now and do the right thing now that there is still hope.
Do not be deceived by ttitle, and your involvement in church activities when heaven do not know you.

  7. this is a true story,@abel you need to learn more about the Jesus you are talking about, why don’t u ask why marry told them in the wedding at cana to do whatever he says.brethren every blessing is attached with a condition. you just have to obey.most importantly give or else you will remian poor.God bless you all.

  8. This is quite a good piece no doubt. But be it as it may, the most important thing in life is to know God and be known by God. Riches is not bad but the way we Christians talk about and give it attention shows we have derailed from salvation God called us to obtain in Christ. This story is making wave because riches and wealth are attached to it.
I would have love it more if the story ended that the man received Christ in addition. The whole world joined together cannot be compared to a single soul won for Christ.

  9. It all depends on the value one has for the man of God sent by God. Someone said that your scence of value determine the flow of virtue.

  10. If u keep d commandment of obedient u will reap d blessing of it,it does nt matter were u frm,jst learn ur lesson frm dat story n also impact it in ur Christian life n in ur ordinary life.

  11. The problem some people have is that they don’t know the mystery behind sewing a seed & sacrifice. Dangote made a sacrifice, forfeited his money, time, business appointment and obey the man of God and as well solved his urgent problem, why wo’nt God bless him, pls learn ur lesson and be humble. Also know who is a man of God and obey a real prophet. God will bless u.

  12. This piece is really nice. I learnt a lot from it and also from everyone comments. The lesson of this piece is humility, sacrifice and respect. The Bishop wanted to use his influence as a Man of God,if anyone is too stand up,Everyone expects a Christain to do so,Even though Dangote is muslim,he respected God. if he is so against Christainity wont stand up for a Man of God.This piece teaches us to do good without selfish interest because God will surely reward us.God blesses us in different ways in his own discretion.God decided to bless Dangote in prosperity direction. God can blesss us in other directions. Our own opportunities for blessing can come any time and in any direction.,,we need to ask God for the grace to say yes to him everday and blessings will not pass by. D difference between a celebrated man and an ordinary man is that he said yes at the appropriate. It is only the Grace of God that help us to recognize opportunities unconciously or consciously.

Now God has made the world to stand up for him.God did for him what he did for the Men of God an even more because God does us good than we merit. LETS THANK GOD FOR GOD. Gratias.

    • I first heard of this story from my pastor in church one Sunday, and it greatly inspired me. I believed it then, and reading it here today has even strengthen my faith further. I believe the hand of God rested on the Arch Bishop to do wonders even as he did his servants Elijah, Elisha, Daniel, Paul and the rest. our God is no respecter of person. He honors the words of his true servants with sounds and wonders following. By the word of the Arch Bishop the whole World has heard about Aliko Dangote today.

However those who are stay in doubt and do not belief this story, you are blessed that Dangote is stay alive today. Why not verify your queries before he is no more?

  14. This story is REAL. Because the BIBLE recorded that JESUS IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOR EVER MORE.Also in 2 CHRONICLE CHAPTER 20 VERSE 20, the Bible made it cleared that those who believe in the LORD GOD shall be established and also those who believe in HIS prophet shall prosper THESE ARE ESTABLISHED FACTS.AND GOD IS FAITHFUL

  15. The story was cut short. When the arch bishop halted the plane on the run way, and when he entered they all stood up and started clapping hands at the sight of him. It took a reasonable time to calm them down for him to propose his request. Then all that were clapping started started murmuring, some became mute. I heared t the full story is fully inscribed in wall of the church in Benin maybe someone can help verify that too. God is not done talking as many think. We all have our encounter with God that if documented can change the heart of men for good. We should open our minds to listen when God speaks
