CAN declares October 1, Independence day as prayer day

The body of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, yesterday has declared October 1 which is Nigerian Independence day as a day of prayers for the country.

CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media & Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, in Abuja, said: “The unity of the country has been under consistent threat as the citizens have been polarized along various divides and the only thing that we can do as the people of God is to intercede for divine intervention.

Therefore “all churches in the country are expected to pray for peace, unity and deliverance of the country on October 1, which marks the Independence Day celebration. Instead of jubilation and much social functions, we are asked to pray for the peace of Nigeria so it can be well with the people in it. Lets join hands together to intercede for Nigeria and its dwellings for peace and serenity to reign in the land.

Also all churches in the country should intercede for the country against needless blood shedding, violence and civil war.” This is our Spiritual rights and obligation to the country therefore it is expected of us all to use that day as a day to stand in gap for our beloved country inorder to save the country from all havoc that might clothe the present administration and others to follow.
