Following the recent verdict by the president of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo that churches should be taxed, Kings Entertainment Signee Benjamin who is popularly known as Mr Benjamin has criticized churches that sell products to its members.
The president based his verdict on the fact that some churches have become very commercial, thereby using the gospel for wealth creation and prosperity.
In an interview on SpaceFMm with Joe Bullet in Sunyani, the Belgian based gospel musician Mr Benjamin stated that some churches that sell anointing oil, stickers, ‘holy water’, calendars, hand bandles, handkerchiefs among others should no longer be called worshipping centres (churches) but rather shopping malls.
“Some churches exist in Ghana just to operate as businesses centres and not worshipping centres. They’ve never operated as a ‘House of God’ but rather to sell their products out to their members to make enough money” Mr. Benjamin noted.
Some persons are also of the opinion that some churches and religious organizations are seen as charities that provide social benefits to society; hence taxing smaller churches can cause those churches to close down due to tiny budgets.
However, Mr Benjamin is completely in support of president Nana Akufo-Addo’s view to start taxing churches across Ghana.
