Should Nigeria change her national anthem?
After watching Timi Dakolo Perform his hit song – Great Nation at the One Nation,No Shaking concert on Sunday October 2 at the Tafawa Balewa Square, award winning music producer Wilson Joel took to his Instagram page to declare that this song be turned to the new national anthem. According to his message on instagram
@musicmagnate – *SHOUTING* TURN THIS THING INTO THE NEW NATIONAL ANTHEM. UNA DEY THERE DEY MUMU US DEY PLAY TRIBALISM, FAVOURITISM & POLITICS!!! IF I EVER BECOME PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, THIS IS MY FIRST MISSION! CHANGE THAT OVER ABUSED ANTHEM TO THIS!!! THERE IS NO ABOMINATION IN THAT!!! I’M. ASHAMED THAT AT THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED YOUTH CONVERSATION HELD IN ABUJA, THIS SONG WAS NEVER SUNG!!! SHAME!! WE MUST BEGIN TO INVEST OUR LIFE AND TIME INTO THINGS THAT MATTER NOT PROPAGANDA & FALSE HOPELESSNESS LAWS AND STRINGENT DECISIONS THAT IS LEADING US NO WHERE. WE ARE LIKE A TRIGGER PULLED BACK WITH NO BULLET IN THE GUN HENCE DEFEATING THE WHOLE ESSENCE OF SHOOTING A GUN!!!! Done VENTING, Off to Church! GOD HAS BLESSED NIGERIA, CAN WE LIKE ACTIVE ALL THE BLESSINGS AND STOP BEHAVING LIKE KIDS WHO JUST GOT A HOLD OF CHOCOLATE FOR THE FIRST TIME!?????
Well, we kind of started discussing this in the office and one of my colleagues said, ”Should just change our national anthem because somebody could not hold back his excitement for a song?”. Well for me, I think is a great song, and it has visible moved people to tears even at the above mentioned event. But changing the national anthem, will that correct the anomalies in the Nigerian entity ? what is your take ?
